Chaos Walking was only released four years after the filming ended. The film was already finished in November 2017. However, screenings to a test audience in 2018 weren't promising. It was therefore decided to record and insert new scenes in 2019. Due to the corona troubles, the launch of the film was repeatedly postponed. Until now. Until 2021.
The chaotic run-up to the film is not reflected on the screen. The movie looks solid. A film that is visually in order with good-looking settings, nice artifacts and a special gimmick with the way the thoughts of the characters are portrayed.
The story is a bit simple and unsurprising. The act consists of the hunt for two protagonists by a group of villainous men led by a cliché villainous Mads Mikkelsen. The film does not have much more action. It is a bit exciting now and then, but because of the thinness of the story never more than that.
The fact that the film will possibly become the first part of a trilogy is visible through isolated events and references without any real connection to the action. An example of this would be a violent encounter with a Indigenous inhabitant. That meeting stands on its own and gives the feeling that the film is preparing the viewer at that moment for something that will follow in other parts. That sometimes butterfly approach looks a bit unsatisfactory.
Chaos Walking has a nice premise but a meager execution. The visual aspects are okay. The acting is good. It's a decent movie that's quite entertaining, but doesn't really splash anywhere. It is not a film that arouses great curiosity about possible subsequent parts.

Naah, this wasn't it for me, rather boring and tedious sci-fi. The film never really got me along and actually irritated me mainly with some characters.

More fun than expected, given the low numbers. The story is quite entertaining, the cast plays well and it all looks nice too. I actually didn't find much wrong with this. A large enough.
