As far as I'm concerned, a wonderfully raw and direct image of the favela, the police and the immense corruption in those kinds of countries. The whole thing looks a bit chaotic, but then again that suits the country and the lifestyle I think. Further violence in the frame; shoot first and only then ask questions, and the pressure and stress that the weather has in all layers, including the main character/agent in question. Almost hilarious scene in which all kinds of interests play a role, one tries to arrange parts, the garage owner is cussing someone who is handing out tickets, a third starts the swearing and calling for an explanation, oh my, what a mess

Clear print that doesn't beat around the bush, it is what it is.

Very intense film about who rules the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. Setting is in the same vein as big brother Cidade de Deus. Where, however, Cidade de Deus departs from the point of view of the few residents, this Tropa the elite focuses more from the point of view of the police. A civil war, you can't describe it better than what happens every day in these slums. It is a cat and mouse game between drug, crime gangs and the police. It is often mopping with the taps open.

The film is raw and reflects the harsh reality. Nothing is black and white and everyone has their motives to act this way or that. Corruption is rampant within the police force and burnouts are a common occurrence. Self-preservation for themselves or for their family is central. A person would turn a blind eye or become corrupt for less. As long as you survive the day and you can still tell it tomorrow. One wonders what one of the main characters André sees in such a job ...

The film contains some excellent scenes. The shooting moments are admittedly a bit busy and unclear (although that will be the case in reality). Violence is not shunned and the camera brings some explicit images such as torture to extract confessions or setting people on fire.

Training was also strongly emphasized. Like being in training in the army waiting for the trenches or Vietnam...

Tropa de Elite is a fairly busy and intense film. This makes the viewer realize that these kinds of practices are certainly true in terms of seriousness. The film does not fall short with that. It was a bit too busy for me in this, there should have been some moments of reflection. This also provides the viewer with material at times to think about what is being reviewed. Now it's like the film is finished and what the hell have I been watching? Both are possible, but I prefer a balance.
