Tropa de Elite 2 - O Inimigo Agora É Outro plot

The story takes place 13 years after the first part. Captain Nascimento is confronted with new enemies: the militias, corrupt police officers who force themselves on the people of the slums. When he comes into contact with the 'system' that controls Rio de Janeiro, he discovers that the problem is much bigger than he thought. But that is not everything. He must deal with the challenge of a city dominated by crime combined with the constant worry about an adolescent son. When his personal and professional world collide, the result is explosive.

Part 1 not seen, part 2 is nevertheless good, especially because it shows the problem in a multifaceted way. Not just the focus on the drug gangs, but especially on the power structures behind them, and who profits behind the scenes. In view of the current corruption scandals in Brazilian politics, this is a topical and important topic. That from the outset two ways of thinking are contrasted (Nascimento's repressive line and Fraga's more leftist course) is strong. Especially if you dare to do that by cross-cutting a college and a prison rebellion. Despite this, the first half is quite messy and it is only in the second half that the film really gets going. Fortunately it remains more than an action movie at all times, the commitment remains an important part of Tropa de Elite 2. I understand that this is very good in Brazil.

Unlike its predecessor, Tropa de Elite 2 is a film that, despite busy and intense images, also contains moments of reflection. This is the commentary I had on the first part. In that sense it was a great movie for me.

So I actually accidentally watched the wrong movie. This was not the movie I chose. Well, I did see him. An action film about police corruption in Rio de Janeiro. A film that undoubtedly scores high in the genre. (He gets a very high rating here too). Admittedly, after a somewhat messy and chaotic start where you wonder where the film actually wants to go, it picks up nicely later on and it becomes clear what the film is about. It's also quite an interesting story. But I just don't like these kinds of movies. Let's just say it's a better than average poo poo poo poo movie.
