Nice and fast film a bit in the style of Woo's masterpiece The Killer.

The first American lead role for the king of cool, Chow Yun Fat. No matter what role he plays, he's always cool. Mainly because of his roles in the John Woo movies, which made him an action hero. The story is nothing special and has been done many times before. Still, the film has its charm. It is made in a bit of a Hong Kong style. That means thousands of bullets flying around your ears, shot in style, and a few fun stunts. The Replacement Killers is full of them. Unfortunately, it is tried a little too hard and that's where things go a little wrong. In Hollywood they don't copy things like this very well and it sometimes feels a bit strange. Other than that, the film moves along nicely. Nice pace and just very entertaining. Fat plays his part with verve, and the rest is not doing badly either, although Sorvino does get a bit lost. Too bad we didn't see more of Schweiger and Trejo.

An entertaining action movie. A role perfectly suited to Chow-Yun Fat.

The film is full of shootouts, and keep the momentum going. Not top notch, but definitely a good movie to watch.

Mediocre.

American attempt to make a Woo film, with Woo as producer and Fat in the lead role. Yet Fuqua doesn't get where he wants to get and the film hangs between fun and chewed out.

Unfortunately, the best moments are the run-up to the action scenes. The action scenes themselves are portrayed somewhat poorly, especially with the editing quite a bit wrong. It looks sloppy and fleeting. Fuqua also conjures up nice camera work, with nice colors and nice shots.

I like Fat a bit more now, but in that period his "cool" didn't really work for me. Sorvino is a kind of more modern Rothrock, she can't act, unfortunately her action skills aren't even half as good as Rothrock's, so she cuts a somewhat lackluster figure next to Fat.

The story is simple, but it mainly revolves around the action scenes. However, they are not good enough to deliver a good action movie, despite the number of bullets fired. Had expected a little more from it, although Fuqua did show beautiful things at times.
