Very mediocre film by Peter Berg. He has no idea how to frame the action. Mediocre acting performance also with Wahlberg in the lead. With his annoying elastic band and his empathetic inability. Ok, it fits his role but I didn't think it suited him at all. On the other hand, I still expected something with Uwais in the cast. This is unfortunately not a good movie like The Raid and Headshot. He does some nice tricks again, but this is very poorly portrayed. A frantic cut, always jumping from one piece to the next with conversations that are intertwined and the like. I think the longest shot in an action scene was at most 2 seconds long. Sometimes you have three-four image changes in 1 second. Extremely disruptive, chaotic and unclear.

I didn't enjoy the action for a moment and the story could also be stolen from me. It was also my third film and during the action even my eyes almost closed. I would have preferred a non-American production, but then there was no break at all between this and 55 Steps.

Not bad; very chaotic and incoherent. The usually reliable Wahlberg is very annoying in the lead role, especially because of the constant stream of nonsense that comes out of his mouth. Not to mention the deadly tiresome technical and political jargon. But hey, it's an action movie, and there's a lot to enjoy in that respect. The editing could definitely have been smoother, but visually the film doesn't disappoint. There is a lot going on with all kinds of spectacular and artfully portrayed action scenes. And Iko Uwais plays an important supporting role for a change.

Iko Uwais steals the show from Mark Wahlberg.

Nice snack that focuses on a platoon... This time they have to take an Indonesian citizen to a plane within a certain time. In return, he will provide a code that would stop an activation of a virus.

And of course that is not without a struggle. Along the way there are plenty of obstacles and we are treated to some cool action scenes. When it's Iko's turn, I understand the high R-rating of this film.

Also a nod to that whole big brother thing and to the social media stupidity of this time. A raise of your voice is like ten disturbances on your head. Mark Wahlberg's role is also very reminiscent of his performance in The Departed. Cynical, stubborn and highly flammable. So a narcissistic disorder... according to the system. Also those digital conversations between that one woman and her ex; that the coarse words are filtered out. Yes, we are very close... or it happens without us even noticing.

Great action movie. By the way, why did they have to use a fictional city? Was Jakarta not good enough?

3.5*
