“Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. I have the only gun on board. Welcome to Con Air.”

Con Air remains a spectacular action film full of memorable one-liners and a host of top actors. Cage and Malkovich are great, but Cusack's role is also good. And then you also have Rhames, Buscemi (genius) and Trejo.

Cage plays the villain with a heart of gold with gusto and Malkovich really threatens. The action scenes look fantastic and especially the last part in Las Vegas is spectacular. Cage giving his daughter a stuffed bunny rabbit continues to be endearing, “Put... the bunny... back... in the box” ... Enjoy. It took blood, sweat and tears, but his daughter has a stuffed rabbit. An action film with a heart, that's how Con Air wants to radiate. Still, I'm concentrating on the cool action and legendary one-liners.

In my youth I saw these countless times. It was now more than 12 years ago. Picked him up yesterday because he was on TV so I could quote him. No shortage of action scenes. It all still looks pretty okay. A typical non-stop action film from that period (Face Off, The Rock, Die hard, Speed, Bad boys and Lethal weapon). Even the story is still okay, but the interpretation is of course something else. Well, you know that in advance with such a print.

The film is actually not worth more than a 2.0* or 2.5*, but fortunately it is lifted to a slightly higher level by John Malkovich and the sublime supporting role of Steve Buscemi. The characters of Cyrus the virus and Garland Greene are unforgettable. It's probably not surprising that I could still vividly recall their characters and dialogues/behaviours after 12 years. Cage and Cusack are not my favorite actors when it comes to pure quality, but for such films Cage is quite acceptable. His one-liners were a hit at the time, not so much now. The rest of the crew is well cast.

Of course it doesn't look all that realistic. Lots of explosions and brute force. Many scenes have been properly portrayed. The scene with Buscemi and the little girl was very scary. The girl's giggle from Greene's point of view, creepy! Too bad there wasn't a fight with Nathan Jones. It came to a rather gruesome end. What also struck me as odd was the moment Cyrus held Poe at gunpoint over Vegas in the plane. There was no trace of this after or during the crash.
The bunny was ultimately the common thread throughout the film. In the end he succeeded in his mission. So everybody happy!

This movie is as bad as the movie poster, but that's the plus of this movie. Con Air has everything an action movie should have and is bursting with explosions. You are therefore dumbfounded that the director is not Michael Bay but Simon West. A lesser name perhaps and you cannot understand that this is his debut because it is undoubtedly his best film.

And that may be the case for Nicholas Cage, a man I can often appreciate for the natural nonchalance in his demeanor. He really does walk around here sometimes with an air of "I don't give a f*** if everything is blown up around me, I'm Cage". I also found that joke with the cage hilarious simply because he makes them.

I don't understand some of the opinions here to be honest. What more could you want from an action movie? There is more than enough action, 2 beautiful women especially Monica Potter, even for the women there are tight torsos to admire, ... yes ok that transvestite was not for me but haha you notice that this film is nice and wrong. At the end you think now it's done and then there is some action. The ending is beautiful! Great movie to watch with the family, right? 4.5* is in order, no discussion possible.
