Cringe!

I didn't expect much from this beforehand, but at the very least a funny Rodriquez movie. But what I got is hard to imagine!

The screenplay is deplorable. Yes, yes who is watching this for the bladiebla scenario. But even if you want to use that as an argument, this movie is too bad for words. Which is especially bad (besides that it doesn't build anything good) that it explains everything extremely lazily. Oh, you're out of memory, well, listen, that's the way the world works. Ok 1 time is still allowed, but it happens all the time. That piece they go out and show that ship. That was a really lazy setup towards her super suit. (Wondered why they don't live there, by the way.) The movie isn't just bad there. It is also very clean and childlike. Her love interest looked straight out of a Disney TV movie. It seemed as if they had 1 street around her house where a lot took place. Apart from some total shots you never really had a big world feeling. It kept feeling that way studio. The CGI is also soulless. And that soundtrack!? What a boring piece of shit.

If the movie is that bad, other things will also stand out. Most notable was the thumbs-up scene. So Alita just got chopped up and comes back with new body and that Asian chick gives a random thumbs-up. Crazy but witty bad piece. I had to laugh more often at the extras.

1 star.

Meh. I still want to give this Alita a six. Because I really liked the setting and the atmosphere. A bit nostalgic too. In addition, there are plenty of beautiful images and flashy shots. The first part of the film is also quite doable in terms of story.

But the standard Hollywood blockbuster sauce unfortunately does not only bring good things with it. For example, the forced timed scenes are unnatural as usual and the sentiment is at times cringe-inducing. The film also gets more and more absurd and rude as it progresses.

Furthermore, from minute 1 I was annoyed by the obvious difference between real and CGI faces. A Christoph Waltz who just talks to get an answer from a computer animation whose movements of the mouth do not match the words that come out. I found that very irritating. Why some cyborgs have real faces and others CGI? I thought that mix was pretty useless.

I had a good time. But this formula film hasn't exactly left a crushing impression.

Well, I just thought this was a very nice SF movie full of cool action scenes and adventure. So, in terms of genre, it certainly succeeded. Beautifully made by the way. Nice visual spectacle : the designs of the city and that sky city .... all beautifully detailed. The action scenes look great: eg the fight in the bar with Zapan, the first confrontation in an alley after she has followed Ido, the underground fight with Grewishka and the Motorball matches appeal to the imagination. Tight pace and flashy editing. The main character with the very large eyes is cleverly presented (seems to be made very technically ingenious to me). In addition, Christoph Waltz and the always nice Jennifer Connelly (albeit in a small role) contribute to a decent cast. The film does not get four stars because the ending is too open and too simple. You have an unsatisfactory feeling at the end. Another reason is also the romantic aspect that is emphasized here too much and could easily have been omitted. 7.5/10
