Don't some commenters here on MovieMeter get it? This is definitely the best Spider-Man movie and arguably the best superhero movie.

This movie takes place 2 years after the first part and Peter's life isn't going as planned, he's unhappy, doesn't have everything together, doesn't have time to be Spider-Man, still loves Mary Jane, feels guilty for his uncle and for his best friend and therefore does not live as desired. These problems are clearly shown in the first act and here the pacing is great, it doesn't come across as heavy due to funny scenes like the pizza delivery and his Russian landlord, also of course the parts with JK Simmons are legendary funny. In the first act, the bond between MJ and Peter is further built, who seem to be genuine. What also makes this film good is that it is so human, things that seem very confidential, such as aunt May. In the second act, the things that ruin Peter's life are emphasized even worse to the point that he loses his powers, still the humor is in there too. The villain is completely built up and has good motivations and is understandable, he has also developed a bond with Peter. Peter decides not to be Spider-Man anymore and MJ sees what she's missing. All plot points come together at the end of the second act, Peter has everything arranged, but only now he sees what people expect from him and what he expects from himself, the third act is spectacular and emotional and gives the story a perfect ending. This movie has great action scenes, super humor, perfect pacing and is structurally so good that it gets the full 5.0 stars from me. The well-deserved 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. Perfect movie in my opinion.

Impossible dragon of a movie.

For whatever reason never watched this second part. Part 1 and part 3 did, but I really thought they were terrible at the time. This second part should be a bit better, it's been a little too long for me to be able to judge that seriously, but I found this second part seriously below average.

It is striking that Raimi also opts for a rather humorous approach here, especially during the first hour. Just to make the comparison with the third Thor, so you see how important it is to have a director who has at least some feeling with the genre. The humor here is so painfully bad it's barely noticeable.

Not that the second, more serious hour is better, because Raimi goes a little more into drama there. Some morals and stuff, feelings and characters who struggle with themselves. It looks completely ridiculous in a superhero movie like this, which just makes the whole mess more annoying to watch.

The Elfman soundtrack doesn't really help either, very bombastic and annoyingly present. Doesn't match the mood of the movie at all. And the acting is equally lukewarm. Maguire and Molina are terrible miscasts, Dunst also looks as if she really didn't want to participate in the film. The only time she shows off a little fun is at the end, when she gets to walk away at her wedding. Probably just glad this stupid nonsense is over.

I'm not a fan of the genre, but also within the genre one of the bad series out there. Atmospheric drivel that fails everywhere. Not funny, not emotional and silly bad guys. Perhaps not so surprising that they are working on their third (or was it fourth?) reboot.

0.5*

Just a bit better than part 1. Wonderful how Peter Parker loses everything here: MJ's love, his job, his supernatural abilities, the trust of his aunt, the friendship with Harry, the support of his teacher, and to make matters worse, his Spiderman suit also drops off in the wash... It is remarkable that the only bright spot (the daughter of his landlord who seems to have a crush on him) is not worked out further.)[/ spoiler] Anyway, he's pretty much grounded, and the movie can begin. Tobey Maguire turns out to be a perfect Peter Parker again, and his dull and annoying appearance doesn't bother me at all. A moving scene at the train's terminus, a beautiful ending for the villain and a great cliffhanger for James Franco complete the film.
