Queen: Days of Our Lives plot

"The life and times of the rock band Queen"

Documentary about the British band Queen, which was formed 40 years ago. The musicians themselves guide the viewer through an extensive archive of mostly never-before-seen images, and tell how four strong individuals with a distinct character and potential managed to work together for so long and with such success. And they never did half the job: their highs were huge and their lows catastrophic. In 1971, four college students decided to form a group: Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon. They named their band 'Queen' and since then they have made 26 albums and sold 300 million records worldwide. Despite the death of Freddie Mercury, Queen is still immensely popular. The documentary tells about the initial tensions within the group, the problems and disagreements, the quarrels and the temporary splits, but also about the success, triumphs and musical legacy of the band, all richly illustrated with personal testimonials and concert footage from around the world. the whole world.

After the film earlier this week, now also a documentary. However, this Days of our Lives does not offer that much extra. A bit more dotted on the i in terms of dates and such, yes, but otherwise it is a rather bare and long recording of the progress of the band.

All albums are played in chronological order. Some strong stories here and there, where you can never be 100% sure whether they were really that tasty, otherwise no criticism and a lot of music that passes by.

Also some "lost" footage, which of course can hardly be seen since it was shot in the 80s and is probably poorly preserved. Despite the fact that the docu is about Queen, it is mainly Mercury who claims the spotlight, but his person does not immediately become clearer after seeing this docu.

No idea what's so special about this, I think it's quite in line with other band documentaries. Nice for fans and stuff, but never really interesting for the rest.

1.5*

Strange, a documentary that can be so gripping and captivating but on the other hand can feel so useless and unworthy. I had this feeling for the entire 120 minutes of the documentary about Queen's rise and walk.

What kept it up for me, of course, were the catchy songs. It's all catchy and knows how to captivate, but afterwards I never had the feeling after Queen's rise that I learned anything more meaningful than a documentary that is actually just about Freddy afterwards.

So I didn't exactly feel like I was getting to know anything more about the band itself, while it just seems like something you could learn a lot about. In addition, sometimes people talk who really don't add anything to the documentary and only make the playing time longer.

After Freddy's death I already had the feeling of " yes you can end now ". The documentary could have ended so much stronger, the last minutes don't really add anything anymore.

In the end it is all interesting, but this does not stand out for me. Then give me that new Peter Jackson documentary.

As a non-music lover or better as someone who hardly listens to music except for the radio in the car, I always had a soft spot for Queen. Very fascinating figure that Freddie Mercury. A real performer, a show animal who could bend everything and everyone to his will. The way he took over Live Aid was phenomenal.

Interesting documentary about one of the greatest bands ever in rock history. Nice mix of old and new interviews. Good alternation of montage between interviews and their greatest hits. Later in the documentary, the film turns more and more towards Mercury and his influence that he had inside and outside.

Loved watching though music documentaries aren't really my favorite thing to see, let alone judge. Wasn't in my “to be seen” movie list top 250 yet (need to update it again), but may have reached the minimum number of votes needed soon after Bohemian Rhapsody came out last year so he appeared very quickly in this list, top 68 right now, yah! Although it remains a strange duck in the bite next to the real films in the top 250 list.
