I think this movie was the first of the Ghibli movies I wanted to see. I really want this movie on bluray. That's why it took me so long to see this one. I've seen other Ghibli movies before this: Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, Arrietty, The Wind Rises , The Red Turtle, Princess Mononoke, but...
In KINO Rotterdam they will be showing many Ghibli films this summer. It's been a few weeks since I saw this movie with my brother in KINO. This was his birthday present, but so far I think this one is the best I've seen from Ghibli. I was already excited after seeing this movie. After it settled in I found it to get better and better. Ghibli has literally captured my heart so far. And I was completely absorbed in this movie. It felt like I was literally right there in that world. I honestly had that feeling a long time ago when I was a kid and first came into contact with movies. I thought this would never happen again.

There is some wear and tear on this animation, but the film is already 35 years old. And yet it continues to be enjoyable. The style is somewhat in line with Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Both in terms of animation, adventure and theme. With successor Totoro, Miyazaki is going in a different direction. What is the power of Studio Ghibli.
The story of a girl with a magical stone that leads to a hidden land. Haunted by people who only think of materialism and power. Fortunately, she is helped by a boy with a big heart. Good guys and bad guys, the necessary humor, action and adventure. Not only the animation with an eye for detail does well, the story is also worth it. It's still a beautiful movie!
