It's 1930. It's the time of sky pirates, bounty hunters and all sorts of pilots. The cunning and best of all pilots is Porco Rosso. Porco Rosso is a man with the head of a pig. He earns his living through odd jobs like rescuing people from pirates.

Magically great...
My 4th Miyazaki and the best for me so far. Totally fell for the beauty of the Ghibli's. They are lovely to look at. And take you away from the realistic world and the hassle that comes with it.
The answer to why I liked this one so much is actually simple. I could completely empathize with Porco. The best character Ghibli has offered me so far. He has something magical about him. The mysterious hangs over him because a lot remains open. Some people don't find this inviting. But for me it contributed to the magnificent thing I had tasted until then.
Weird that this one is actually rated as the lowest. Although 3.67 is still very high.
The atmosphere the Miyazaki creates here is once again great. It may not have the overwhelming power of a Spirited Away. But the balance of plot and characters is all the better here. And here and there with a great wink. Because there are a lot of great humorous scenes in it.
The Italian setting is flawlessly displayed, the tricolore on the planes (which are wonderfully created by the way). And the depression is also a nice addition. The film is actually quite short, but this keeps it strong throughout the film.
The ending hits the spot. Certainly not wrong, and kwa Porco perfect. But.. it could still be stretched for a few minutes.
Apart from this minus point, another great experience with fantastic music (especially the credits). It's nice to let it play for a while. And rightly so.

Pretty fun adventurous Ghibli with a nice historical context of Italy just before the Second World War. Fascism leans here and around the corner and that is subtly portrayed by Miyazaki. In any case, already very interested in dog fights and here in this Porco Rosso there is no shortage of it. Those dogfights are phenomenal with a lot of eye, precision and detail. The animation is again very nice.
Beautiful story, beautiful setting and atmospheric lighting. Never boring and very pleasant to watch. There is also a bit of humor here and there about the characters. Nice characters, in the first place Porco Rosso himself, but also the pirates or the rival of our hero were nice. Not the best Miyazaki I've seen, a little too little experience of the magical, but certainly very pleasant to see. Nice!
