Still a lot better than Pom Poko, but certainly not a masterpiece.

First of all, the animation. Although it looks very simple, it is beautifully done. The simple animations convey the good atmosphere of a simple family. In addition, I have also seen enough beauty in those simple animations. Every now and then very nice shots pass by. Quite different from what you are used to from Ghibli, but it certainly works out well. Simple yet very complex, very well done. In addition, the sound is also noteworthy. This is beautifully designed. You can hear something everywhere, from birds to passing cars. The beautiful music also supports the whole well.

Story is not really present in The Yamadas, it is a sampling of the everyday life of an ordinary family. The struggles with daily life and the mutual relationships are very recognizable and therefore also cause a laugh precisely because it is so recognizable. In addition, the family is also a bit abnormal, this is nice to keep things a bit more colorful, but it never works as well. The first hour is very strong, but unfortunately it drops a bit in the last half hour. Also because it just takes too long. It's not really interesting enough to fill the entire playing time. Pom Poko also had the same problem. The ending makes up for a lot, but still leaves you with a very good feeling. Fortunately, the morale was never really disturbing.

A very warm and fun film, which lasts just a bit too long and therefore cannot really hold the attention.

So much better with a new look. Minimalistic animation, which makes everything come into its own. A family in which it sometimes clashes, but which is related to love. The many 'stories' sketch a world in which these conflicts and reconciliations go hand in hand.

It is precisely by displaying those many recognizable things and not a great drama that makes the image of the loving family so strong and recognizable. It is usually about many small things and sometimes the imagination runs wild. To land again and again in a warm home after a flight on the clouds.

ghibli.

Not the first Ghibli film to disappoint me, and I don't think it will be my last. Still, I have to say that this particular movie is unlike most Ghiblis I've seen. No fantasy creatures that are the primary focus here, but a disturbed family, each member of which is unique in its own way.

I thought the film opened quite nicely and immediately had a fairly special way of animating. It doesn't look like much at first glance, but director Takahata shows in a good way that appearances can be deceiving. There are a lot of beautiful images in this film, with drawn details that today's animators can say to you.

The voice cast is very annoying, and as far as I'm concerned it only makes things more uncomfortable. Now I naturally don't care much for these kinds of characters. Busy, energetic appearances that try to get a reaction from the viewer by acting foolishly. Of course it's all meant to be hilarious, but I just don't like it at all.

Although it looks nice for a while I got really bored after the first 30 minutes had passed. There is no clear story in it, much is given a meaning through animation. That works for half an hour, but in the end I prefer to see a somewhat clearer line. It may distinguish this film from other animations, but it just doesn't convince me.

Not a bad film that only gets this score for the animation. I just don't like the studio, and from now on I see little reason to continue my trips through Ghibliland. Maybe it should have happened before, but now everything is really off the list. For the time being. I guess I'll just have to give up hope for it.
