"It's not so bad being a cat, now is it?"
Haru is experiencing a normal school day, but when she is walking home with a friend, something strange happens. She rescues a cat that was nearly run over by a car, and to her surprise, the animal stands up and thanks her. Haru is perplexed but her mother reminds her of a similar incident from when she was little. In the evening there appears to be a procession of cats in the street.

Nice film that is just too short for real depth and in the second part is focused just too much on action and is mainly too rushed, but otherwise fine to watch. Nice characters and certainly up to the moment in the cat world also with a nice atmosphere and good structure. Then it quickly goes from scene to scene where one should have taken the time. Just like the cat world itself, which doesn't show much fantasy. The drawing style is nice, but I'm used to much nicer and more detailed. The urban backgrounds are beautiful. 3.0*.

The Cat Returns tells the story of Haru, an ordinary girl who one day rescues a crossing cat. Much to her surprise, the cat gets up afterwards and thanks her. Later she is told that the king of cats wants to marry her to his son as a reward, but she does not want that. The half-cat Baron Humbert von Gikkingen is the only one who can help her.
Actually, The Cat Returns is a spin-off of Whisper of the Heart, which also features the Baron. This makes it the only sequel film that Studio Ghibli has ever made. Where almost all Japanese animation films have a pleasant running time of 2 hours, it is just as short as the Disney films. I am always very annoyed by the short running time of these kinds of animation films. This excludes any possibility of depth.
So here too it was little more than an entertaining outing, Successful Anthropomorphism and despite being computer-colored, the animation was still brilliant.

Decent Ghibli, but have seen nicer and better ones. But the quality is definitely there with a new fantasy story set in a world full of cats. Good animation with beautiful pictures, but all just that little bit less than the reference pictures.
Nice story where Haru is led to the cat world where not everything goes according to plan. Had expected more from the cat king anyway, but it was actually the least developed. As already read here, perhaps more an animation that is closer to children, but as an adult certainly also liked to watch it.
