My Week with Marilyn plot

"She's worth all the trouble"

In the summer of 1956, 23-year-old Colin Clark, fresh out of Oxford and determined to make a career in film, worked as an assistant on the set of 'The Prince and the Showgirl', the film that Sir Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe united. The latter was also on honeymoon with her new husband, screenwriter Arthur Miller. When Arthur Miller leaves England, the way is clear for Colin to introduce Marilyn to the joys of British life: an idyllic week spent escorting Monroe, Monroe desperate to get away from her Hollywood supporters and the pressures of the work.

In 1956, 23-year-old film fan Colin Clark is assigned to keep a journal about the making of The Prince and the Showgirl, a romantic comedy starring Laurence Olivier [Eddie Redmayne] and Marilyn Monroe [Michelle Williams]. ] in the lead roles. Olivier is a classically trained, accomplished stage actor and director who quickly becomes bonkers over the seeming whims of Marilyn Monroe, who also asks constant help from her acting coach and Method pioneer Paula Strasberg [Zoë Wanamaker] who constantly tries to instill her courage. to talk. When Marilyn and Colin get along, the inexperienced Colin takes on increasing responsibility for Marilyn's well-being. Branagh, a huge fan of Laurence Olivier who has often been compared to him, is completely in his element and Williams is sublime in the not to be underestimated role of Monroe, one full of pitfalls that she manages to avoid without difficulty. Dench has a nice role as co-star Sybil Thorndike, who immediately senses what Marilyn needs and Redmayne fits in exemplarily in his secondary, somewhat drab role. Curtis prefers light-heartedness to psychological depth, but that's not too much of an objection.

Unfortunately rather superficial, this true story in which 23-year-old Colin Clark (Eddie Redmayne) meets Marilyn Monroe as an assistant on the set of 'The Prince And The Showgirl' and experiences a short-lived friendship with her. Michelle Williams is excellent as Monroe and Kenneth Branagh is funny as Laurence Olivier, but Redmayne is an enigmatic and rather dull character and the script has few memorable moments. It all ripples along quietly and not unpleasantly, but afterwards it can be removed directly from the mental hard drive.

Half.

Watched the film after seeing Blonde and I thought that was an absolute hit. That's why we also watch a second film about Monroe, but this film focuses on someone who apparently walked next to her in the background. Afterwards, also looked in astonishment at the fact that this person really existed.

I find it hard to believe when I watch this movie. Everyone is pretty much portrayed as a villain and Redmayne as the only one who has a little bit of good in them. The comic beginning around his character about his path to success only adds to this, because I can't take the tone seriously at all. The relationship between him and Williams also moves like an express train, so we hardly get a picture of how it was developed at all.

Furthermore, a film that never really projects a feeling on the viewer and therefore mainly makes a good impression. I don't have much more to say about it. It goes very smoothly and I could still laugh at Branagh's character, but that's where most of it ends. Film that could have been and do more in many areas, so that this film mainly falls dead while the core has quite a lot to tell.
