Alice Claudet is about to meet her husband, Dr. Jacques Claudet, because he spends more time with his patients than with her. His mentor, Dr. Dulac, acknowledges the sacrifices Alice made, but also asks her to listen to a story about a woman who made greater sacrifices for Jacques: his mother Madelon Claudet.
