Detectives Martin Riggs, Roger Murtaugh and Lorna Cole are back, along with hyperactive Leo Getz. The foursome are this time assisted by Assistant Detective Lee Butters in their investigation into the people smuggling organized by an Asian crime organization. They are soon confronted by Wah Sing Ku, the tough man in the organization. It soon becomes apparent that taking down this Chinese mafia gang could turn out to be a tough, deadly job for Riggs and Murtaugh.

Great fourth part actually where the franchise in total can be called strong. The third film collapses a little bit, but here all registers are thrown open again. It starts with a strong opening scene with the flamethrower.
Riggs and Murtaugh remain the ultimate buddy cop duo that has no equal. However, the examples are countless. Humor and action remain closely intertwined. This is partly due to the strong chemistry between the two. The family matters cause some dead moments, but at the same time it is the common thread of the film, the binding agent and the explanation why the duo functions so well together. Pesci now faces competition from Rock, but fortunately the two do not come together too much. Jet Li is also a good addition as a martial art bad guy.
Very entertaining and always nice to linger while zapping. Pure nostalgia. Nice!

So, this last part is really unpacking! Almost non-stop action in this fourth part and the action scenes also look nice. Beautiful stunts, beautiful explosions. What more could an action enthusiast want? Quality shines through in this part. How could it be different. No less than 140 million has been pumped into this project. A lot of money in those days for an action movie. Jet Li also fights very hard with his martial arts skills. He is a very good addition to the film.
Of course the film is not completely top notch, but the entertainment level is top notch. What I personally found occasionally disturbing is the chatter between the two (chief) inspectors during the action scenes. Are they hiding behind something again, talking about little things, while the bullets fly around their ears. Yes, I kind of get the hang of it at times like that. Now seriously. Because there is enough humor in the film. Especially that scene at the dentist 
. What a great scene that is!
All in all, this is a great ending to a great series. For me after the first part, the best. 4*
