Lethal Weapon 2 plot

"The magic is back!"

Police officers Martin Riggs (Gibson) and Roger Murtaugh (Glover) are back. This time they come into contact with an African diplomat who uses his diplomatic immunity to carry out his criminal activities with impunity. The irritating Leo Getz (Pesci) is the only witness Riggs and Murtaugh have, but the question is whether they will kill him themselves before he can testify.

This movie was great fun, although I liked the first part better. This part is full of action and humor and I found the humor a bit too exaggerated and a bit too much of a good thing. This does not help the simple story and the tension no less. Anyway, on the other hand, keep your wits about you and enjoy this late 80s movie!

The duo is back and happy with much of the same cast and crew. Danny Glover and Mel Gibson have a strong chemistry together and make for one of the best buddy cops in movie history. The trick with the movies is always that they are action movies with humor and not comedies with action. When there is action, it is also loud and with the necessary explosions. Here and there some nudity, swearing and witty one-liners. Nowadays, the genre is more aimed at a younger audience and thus misses the mark completely.

Complementing the film is Joe Pesci who provides the humor. Sometimes a bit busy, but luckily he stands opposite Murtaugh and Riggs which makes them stand out even better. The story is usually secondary in these kinds of films, but it is already striking that it revolves around apartheid in South Africa. Keep in mind that in 1989 this was much more of a hot topic and Nelson Mandela was even incarcerated. It's something different than a drug dealer or nuclear weapons.

Lethal Weapon misses that a bit more from part 1, but is very strong for a 2nd part. I also like the music of Michael Kamen and Eric Clapton with the recognizable saxophone.
