The retrospectives - in abundance, and often lengthy - can be seen as a debt to the film. In the beginning of the film it annoyed me, but it became compelling nonetheless. The flashbacks are often included in the film in a remarkable and fascinating way (something that the compilation episodes of sitcoms fail to do).

Very nice are the encounters with characters from the previous films. This will give you a better understanding of the character Antoine Doinel as the story is also told from their perspectives. It turns out that the Doinel series has been very well thought out, especially with the flashbacks to the psychological research from Les Quatre Cents Coups.

Good closing. Too bad about some flashbacks that were too long, but the tasty cherry that fractalis already talked about. As an independent film, it falls short. Three stars.

Not so happy with this last Antoine Doinel episode, a kind of extension, consisting of 90% flashbacks from previous films. Perhaps just as enjoyable to see a pack of different scenes compressed together, but there is not more than that.

If the intention was to clarify a few things, then there was really no need for that anymore.

Closing of the adventures of Antoine Doinel, in which he again has a difficult relationship with a new flame (Dorothée) and gets the chance to look back on his previous love affairs. Due to the many flashbacks, this is not a successful conclusion to the series, but it is useful for viewers who missed the short part two (Antoine et Colette). The film seems to have been put together a bit hastily, as if Truffaut has grown tired of Doinel's character by now.
