The flashing light relationship between Doinel and his girlfriend aptly indicates that Doinel doesn't know what he actually wants. People who don't have a clear goal in mind are indecisive, which was good to see with Doinel here. I found his bumbling, insecure behavior amusing when he was sent out as a private detective. It cannot be otherwise that Truffaut has inserted such a scene with a smile, where Doinel hides behind a tree and barely keeps his distance from his predecessor.

The insinuations of the staff about the shoe shop owner again turned out to be funny. The way he hurriedly fled home when he was with 'the wife of' I found a bit less funny. Many fun characters grace the film, including 'the secret admirer of' Doinel`s girlfriend.

It has also only recently been proven that it is better to decide a little faster than to weigh and weigh 10 times about something. Although the latter often makes it much more entertaining to watch. Nothing great, but an entertaining film. 3.5*

Stylish Truffaut film that I thought beforehand, given the title, that it would be about a clandestine love affair à la Romeo and Juliette, but actually brings about the opposite, namely the instability, transience to deceit in love.

The skittish character of Antoine, very cleverly played by Jean-Pierre Léaud, not unfamiliar to Truffaut, is remarkable to follow and the lamented Claude Jade also plays her part well.

Third part of the Doinel series, set in the revolutionary year 1968. The mischievous boy from Les quatre cents coups is now almost ten years older and in the short snack [i]Antoine et Colette[ /i] meanwhile became acquainted with (one-sided) love, which only increased his uncertainty. With love within reach, the somewhat unworldly Antoine loses himself in unattainable dreams.
