Beautiful film adaptation of the famous book by Charles Dickens. Fine exposition of the selfish and petulant character Scrooge into a generous man. The transformation may be a little too easy, but the character Scrooge previously comes out very nicely.

Saw this movie with my 7-year-old daughter. Maybe a little scary here and there with those ghosts. Nice creepy atmosphere by the way of the nocturnal London of the 19th century and the chilly house of Scrooge. Scrooge himself, too, looked stunningly ugly and antipathetic. To really freak out.

Ultimately a nice Christmas movie, but first you have to struggle through some bitterness and terrifying moments. Not for the (very) little ones, so - I'm a little bit wrong about that - otherwise fine!

A Christmas Carol is a well-known Christmas story by Charles Dickens. And not the first time it's been made into a movie. This time in a CGI animated version voiced by Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge. Not obvious, because Scrooge has already been played by big names like Michael Caine, Patrick Stewart, Albert Finney, Basil Rathbone and more.

Disney mainly wants to unpack with animation and 3D, which occasionally produces beautiful scenes. But the people seem like they're straight out of a Shrek movie and haven't survived the test of time. For me, A Christmas Carol is above all a character film with a strong story, carried by the actors. I am missing a soul in this movie. This is especially important for a Christmas film. It's all pretty distant. Thanks to the story, the film is not that bad, but there are much better versions than this.

setback.

I am somewhat familiar with the famous legend on which this film is based. Apparently named as the most faithful variant of the legend by the way, so that must mean that the written piece is also set up dark. That doesn't make this film suitable for the youngest among us, but it's fine nonetheless.

What always disappoints me with these kinds of films is that Zemeckis has been making animation for 5 years, but this often turns out very ugly. It feels very lifeless. The facial expressions rarely change and everyone just looks like an idiot designed. The backgrounds are a bit better animated, but for such an expensive film I thought it all looked like a 3D presentation of Floorplanner.

Voice cast is certainly decent. Didn't immediately recognize Carrey as Scrooge. In retrospect, it is quite a seductive role for him. A bit silly, but very self-conscious. It's no surprise that Carrey agreed to the role. Other names also do quite well, but there is no one with a wonderfully charming voice.

The course is sometimes quite dark and I could appreciate the variation in imaginative images. It's a bit of a shame that the film has a bit of trouble striking the balance between foolishness and serious parts. Doesn't really make the film optimally effective, even if that is only a small point of criticism in its entirety. My main stumbling block is simply the animation, which I simply cannot take seriously.

Zemeckis is a special director. On the one hand he is able to put together the safest productions, but on the other hand he sometimes ventures into somewhat stranger territory. The most bizarre thing about it is that he still gets a lot of money for it, but afterwards I'm glad that this meant the last animated film for him. I'd rather see him direct.
