I actually didn't think he was that bad. Had some pretty fun scenes. Have a good look. It's funny how different it is from the other parts.

Nice sequel to A Nightmare on Elm Street.

No longer Wes Craven in the director's chair, but at that time still an unknown director Sholder. He does the trick just fine on his own. The familiar elements are back in the sequel and it's all quite entertaining. Tension every now and then, blood, nightmares and the razor sharp blades. It's all there. So great entertainment.

Story is different, but was also necessary. Otherwise you would almost have the exact same movie. In itself there is a nice twist to the story. Enough for part 2, on to Dream Warriors! I am curious what I can expect there and how Freddy will make life miserable for his 'enemies' this time again and not just make it sour I think...

Mediocre.

Part 1 has been around for a while now and I honestly don't know much about it anymore. I do know the lines of that part a little bit, and I'm sure this part is a little bit different. In addition, there is less room for Englund as Freddy, a rather special choice that does not have a beneficial effect on the film.

The build-up of the film is slow and I didn't notice a lot of atmosphere. With this kind of series it is important that you know what to expect, but I had that less during this part. Of course, unpredictability is not wrong, but this part deviates too far. Such an Englund just needs to be used more often, and only the moments with him have some effect, because the other moments are less interesting.

I was not a fan of the visual quality of the film. Especially the finale is portrayed abominably, making it difficult to take the horror seriously anywhere. Myers and Patton both do very poorly and never manage to form any fun characters. With the more largely missing Freddy, Englund also manages to make little impression.

The film does have some scenes that make it worth it, with the opening being the biggest highlight. In between we also get a number of decent scenes that are enhanced by a well-supporting and now iconic soundtrack. The film still manages to gain some atmosphere there, and the set-up of the murders were also quite nice.

That being said, this sequel was very disappointing to me. It's fine that they go in a different direction, but then I think it's best that you either don't put Freddy in it or let Freddy play a prominent role. Now the film has too little to rely on in terms of horror, and the premise wasn't exactly exciting either. Too bad, but luckily the sequels were better again.
