After the terrible showing of the 6th part, this is still a worthy closing.

I quite like the idea itself. It also delivered a different kind of tension. The Elm Street series is quite an inconsistent series so this as an end can also be added.

Nice to see even after the 6 previous parts. Many references and winks. It just will never really click between Freddy and me. Thought the film was actually quite exciting until Freddy himself came into the picture, then it all became a little less.

Best scene in my opinion was the one on the highway, the end was the worst part of the movie. The whole Hansel and Gretel given was also a bit inappropriate.

But nice closing, in my opinion, together with part 5 the best in the series.

3.0

Good film in which the actress Heather Langenkamp is harassed by a stalker who pretends to be Freddy Kreuger. After the first part, Wes Craven is back in the director's chair and takes a different tack here and makes the best film of the entire series. An original idea in which the actors play themselves and it can also be seen as a precursor to Scream.

The problem with more Wes Craven films: way too slow. Shouldn't have lasted more than 90 minutes. In itself a nice idea to let the actors play themselves as makers of the original film in the background of the story. However, meta-references and self-mockery are done much nicer not long after in the much smoother and nicer written Scream series. What attracted me most to the Elm Street films were the bizarre kills, the excess of fantasy that dreams give all the space to and the special way in which Freddy Krueger had to be defeated every time. Parts 3 and 4 are the best for me. This film limps a bit on two legs, on the one hand it wants to be much more serious, on the other hand that ironic wink by wanting to tell a meta story.
