I was never really into the Nighmare on Elm Street idea/story, and it shows after this movie.

It was all nice though, the special effects looked good, especially when they transitioned back into Freddy's world, which looked very atmospheric by the way. But I've mostly been annoyed by the acting, because that was just really bad, especially in the first half of the movie. Thought it was nice that they totally misled me as far as Freddy's background is concerned. I really felt sorry for him for the first half of the film, until I found out that he did abuse those children, I didn't see that coming. In terms of horror, I also thought it was mediocre, it don't get really exciting anywhere, you saw the shock effects coming for miles. But the gore was just right for me, not too filthy and no torture, yes I could watch this.

I actually thought Haley was a good Freddy, but maybe that's also because I don't really remember Englund from the old Nightmare movies. I'll have to check them out again, I don't think I've even seen them all.

What also didn't do the film any good was the audience in the room, horribly adolescent people who laughed all the time when someone died. Still don't get why that's funny? There was also a guest sitting next to me who was warm and therefore took off his sweater, so that a smoke came from his armpits, gosh. Well that was not the best experience.

All in all I thought it was slightly below average, mainly because of the acting and therefore a 2.5*

Unnecessary, but in itself reasonable re-make of Wes Craven's surprising success from the eighties. With the original series I got to part 4. Part 3 was still a kind of VHS cult hit, parts 2 and 4 were already too bland. This comes somewhere halfway in terms of appreciation, although a part of youth sentiment will still play a role. Of course we miss Robert Englund as Freddy ... just that one nice alien from the series V who suddenly broke through as a horror icon.

As expected.

Perhaps even a bit better than expected, but it soon became clear that this remake is really completely broken by a director who still falls short in many areas. Since he hasn't really done anything in the director's chair anymore, it's because he probably still has a lot to learn.

But in the end it's not a drama either, although the first 30 minutes can still be called an absolute drama. Almost everything goes wrong in the first part of the film. Because where do I even start with my criticism there.

The movie is decent in terms of kills, and the acting is really abysmal. Only Haley still manages to do something like Freddy at times. But it doesn't suit him. Freddy is totally unmemorable and really falls short as a character. Also very ugly CGI around Freddy.

And especially Mara really delivers a terrible performance. She can always play like a freak, but she can't do this at all. Gallner also does little in his role. The film hardly builds up any tension, nothing is actually exciting or intriguing. As soon as the director starts to take the time for a build-up, it is still not much longer than 3 seconds.

But in the end, the film picks up speed in the second part and isn't completely broken visually. In any case, there is a depressing atmosphere and the nightmare factory looks nice and atmospheric. Also some moments when the visual is even slightly above average. The moment the photo changes into the picture for example.

The dramatic second part is softened a bit by the much nicer second part, which never got boring and had a high tempo. And the last kill was also very nice.I still give the film the benefit of the doubt, and therefore still a small 2.5*
