Annoying. You couldn't really have any expectations of this, because I already knew in advance that part 2 has nothing to do with the first film. Yes, it's an action movie, yes it's set in Thailand (Siam actually, but the location is the same) and yes, Tony Jaa is starring. Compared to the handful of Thai (historical) action films that I have already seen, it is striking that Ong Bak 2 looks a lot more modern. The effects and sets are much nicer than was usual for Thai cinema. The difference with less than ten years ago is huge.

The lack of an original story is well compensated by Tony Jaa's fighting skills. I understand the criticism that Ong Bak 2 has a very large demonstration value, but the action scenes still make up for it. Tony Jaa is one of the best martial artists of the moment in my opinion. Maybe I like the action in the first movie just a bit better. Also unfortunate are the holes in the plot that make the ending especially strange. On the other hand, there are also some cool characters walking around. All in all, nice job!
