"Here comes the bride."
The Bride (Uma Thurman) is shot at her own wedding by her boss Bill and his henchmen. A bullet to the head puts her in a coma for four years, but when she wakes up she begins plotting her revenge against Bill and the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad.

Saw this top film on blu-ray for the first time last night and once again it was enjoyable and I was blown away again. What a genius Tarantino is. A great, fantastic filmmaker and an artist (in the cinema field). It's not normal how well and everything fits together perfectly. I've never heard the music so appropriate for certain scenes in any film. But it is not only appropriate, but also simply delicious. As a music lover it is impossible not to enjoy this. Example: arrival of Oren-Ishii in the club, with the song 'Battle without honor or humanity' as background music. Man, man, man. What a great scene. Tough, macho, a perfect Lucy Liu (her best and appropriate role ever). And then that number. The songs are bombastic and different again with delicious Eastern melodies. It can hardly be better. Not even talking about Nancy Sinatra..
The fights are wonderful, raw, cut hard, the blood spatter can be seen on the camera lens. The first fight with the two ladies is an example of this. This is followed by the beautiful and raw anime. Super cool to put that in a movie. It just fits well, since 'The Bride' travels to the Far East to pick someone up a bone there. And then we get the fight at the end with a phenomenal Liu as the icing on the cake. But before we can enjoy that, Tarantino presents you with a dizzying battle, where your ears and your eyes fail. Again perfect direction. Dared to film that part in black and white, but it turned out well if you ask me.
From the far east, Tarantino brings us back in the second part (so to speak) to the far west in a western-esque setting! I can't wait to put on the blue disc of this final piece. Close with one personal sentence: this is one of the best movies ever made *****III

Tarantino created a postmodern mix with elements of grindhouse, spaghetti, samurai and kung fu. It is a roller coaster with a sequence of action scenes in an unrealistic, fantastic style. In this universe , a woman can single-handedly defeat Japanese stormtroopers. The kill list isn't finished chronologically, but it's quite easy to follow thanks to the intertitles and the names that are crossed out. The moral is eye-for-eye, but also anti-sexist.
Uma Thurman himself came up with the idea of the Bride. She is tough and merciless. The highlights of this first part are the confrontation with Vivica A. Fox, the escape from the hospital and the confrontation with Lucy Liu. Chiaki Kuriyama has a nice side role as Gogo, because she is cute and aggressive at the same time in her school uniform.
The fight scenes consist of flashy montages of short takes, with the use of stuntwoman Zoë Bell. On the other hand, there are long takes through rooms and over stairs. Changing perspectives, black-and-white images and animation provide variety. There are grand scenes, but also telling close-ups of Uma Thurman's toes or Lucy Liu's eyes. The dominant color yellow contrasts with the red of the many fake blood. The music contributes to the retro atmosphere with reverberating guitars, a virtuoso trumpet and a Romanian flutist.

Still less than in my memory. The action is good, the story is simple. Actually, the action on O-Ren is the best the 2 films have to offer. Ok, it's a bit over the top. It's also good against Copperhead.
Film 1 is therefore significantly better than film 2, which regularly loses its tempo. I've actually never seen Uma Thurman act much outside of Kill Bill exactly. This goes from 4.5 to 3.5*.
