Surreal whipped cream.

Director De Palma usually does not do real viewer deception. It caused his great example Hitchcock to stumble over himself once, but also followed this example. And so De Palma deliberately misdirects his viewer in a very stylish and entertaining thriller.

The observant viewer will still be able to see all references and characters appearing everywhere as harbingers of possible fallback bases for the director. Or even as ordinary goofs. However, nothing could be further from the truth, because the filmmaker keeps the reins firmly in his hands.

And so De Palma shakes up all doubters with a twist, which makes anyone who dreamed away at the beautiful Romijn and this brilliantly put together story answer the remaining questions. The puzzle in the final shot is the icing on this surreal whipped cream.

Masterpiece.

Femme Fatale is a film as I like to see it, a thriller/mystery with an erotic, sultry atmosphere and a wonderful twist in which the femme fatale gets what she deserves. The film has a bit of nudity and a wonderful striptease. So typical of what you can expect from a De Palma film. If you're not in the mood, you usually suffer from long-windedness at De Palma, but in this film I was once again enjoying it. After the impressive opening scene, the story unfortunately collapses a bit, but it doesn't get bad anywhere. The music also manages to hold the attention.

Femme Fatale ends a bit atypical compared to a standard neo-noir as Rebecca Romijn dreamed what her future would be if she took over the life of her doppelganger.. The plot is reminiscent of Mulholland Drive from afar, but I wouldn't really make the comparison. The moral and theme of the story is different there. To me, Femme Fatale is clearly neo-noir, also think of the Venetian blind, the man who seems to fall into the trap of the femme fatale (or not? ), often filmed a bit dark and some plot twists.
Great because you don't see them like this very often.

Brian de Palma's films have, in my opinion, lost a lot of quality over the years. This nonsensical crime mystery is an example of this, despite the bare breasts of Rie Rasmussen. The thriller element is hard to find. And I've known for some time that playmate Rebecca Romijn is devoid of acting talent. Not only she, De Palma also shows his most frugal side in this film.

The synopsis above doesn't make any sense. It was written by someone who hasn't seen the movie (a "the clock and the clapper" story).
