Very exciting movie, when Griffith still looked decent (only her sentence: "I don't shave" was less appetizing ) and nice double twist at the end, a bit underrated on imdb I think .. .. 4 *

Body Double. Fantastic film by De Palma. Very good atmosphere creation and it looks like a remake of Rear Window but it is a lot more interesting.

The plot twist was on the one hand to be expected, yet I didn't think at all about what was to come. You were really going through the movie with Jake. Have a good time together. Beautiful woman(s), Gloria is actually a bit femme fatale like. One thing I wonder: Why did her husband have to steal that key card from her handbag? Wasn't it also his house then? Maybe I missed that. A small mistake that he shifts the telescope so much. A minimal shift is enough at such a distance but good. Everything else tends to perfection. A lot better than Rear Window and also better than Disturbia. I think this is my sixth De Palma film and it rises even further in my estimation.

Brian De Palma once again borrows from Hitchcock. Voyeurism comes from Rear Window, but he borrowed even more from Vertigo. The plot is similar, the camera revolves around a couple kissing, and a dolly zoom depicts the subjective experience of a main character with a mental disability - this time not afraid of heights, but claustrophobia.

A stunning location is the Chemosphere, an octagonal, modernist building in the Hollywood Hills. Craig Wasson is fit for the role of a casual hero with a flaw. Melanie Griffith has quite a complex role. It is she who is dancing in a wig, and she will be recognized by her dance moves. Dennis Franz, a regular customer at De Palma, has a funny side role as a detective. Deborah Shelton was a former Miss USA, but her voice was dubbed. A classic theme is the male gaze, where a woman is the object in the eyes of a slightly obsessed man. Windows, mirrors, cameras and a telescope are tools.

The director sought out the controversy with quite a few scenes that made the rating committee sweat. The viewer is twice misled by the denouement with a double twist, which makes it difficult to distinguish between reality and dream. Pino Donaggio's synthesizer music also evokes a dreamy mood. The interlude with Frankie Goes to Hollywood is nicely built in.
