Roar plot

"No animals were harmed in the making of this movie. 70 members of the cast and crew were."

Hank is the head of a scientific station, where the behavior of predators is studied. In the safari park that belongs to it, about a hundred lions, tigers, leopards and other feline predators roam free. When his wife, two sons and daughter come to visit him from Chicago after several years of separation, they miss each other because Hank is trapped in the jungle. The wild animals now see an opportunity to hunt the family.

Heh.

I usually prefer not to know too much about a film beforehand, but with this one, it's actually quite helpful. Not that you need to read up on it extensively, but knowing that the animals aren't tame or trained is essential for viewing. That's what makes it completely insane.

Beautiful animals, yes, but it's no surprise that 70 people were injured during filming. The only surprise is that there weren't more (or worse) injuries. It's also completely incomprehensible that they simply continued filming. After a scene and a half, they should have realized this was simply not a good idea.

Lots of visible fear (I think that black guy really didn't like it), barely any plot, and lots of big cats chasing people. That and a few angry elephants. There's not much more to it, but that ultimately proves to be enough to make it an enjoyable watch. This isn't truly great cinema, but it is a strong example of eye-opening entertainment.

What a crazy affair this is. I watched, fascinated. Years of filming, 70 injuries, and just continuing with all the recordings and so on. This project would never get off the ground these days. I thoroughly enjoyed this 'Roar'.

The bizarre thing is of course the circumstances, the story doesn't amount to much and the animals themselves are the main attraction.

Jan de bont has edited everything very nicely, here you can see how good he is as a cameraman, he alternates mass scenes

well done with beautiful close ups of lion heads (they are truly beautiful animals).

The highlight comes when the family arrives and is almost literally overrun by the animals, resulting in a long, almost comical scene that is undoubtedly experienced very differently by the players.
