“I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour, but heaven knows I'm miserable now...”

“Yeah, I know how you feel.”

Delicious. The Commitments has great music in the first place, and during several songs it's hard to sit still. Wonderful language that Irish too. Strong, Ball, Doyle Kennedy and Hansard have excellent voices, and the story about a newly formed band that falls apart due to mutual quarrels is strongly put together. The film reminded me a bit of Almost Famous at times, but where Crowe mainly aimed for sentiment and melancholy, Alan Parker ensures that there is also a lot to laugh about. And the Irish setting also provides a slightly rawer edge. But the music and the quarreling among themselves provide the strongest moments.

Haha, love this! A group of Irish working-class youngsters form a soul band in Dublin in the early 1990s. Fairly atypical music genre for Ireland. The run-down suburbs of Dublin are immediately reminiscent of, for example, films by Ken Loach or Shane Meadows, but it is much more cheerful. No social dramas, here you see a bunch of irregulars who have to (learn to) bring music together and have all kinds of organizational problems. Main character is "manager" Jimmy Rabbite, an ambitious young man. The songs were performed well, although it was too much of a good thing in the last half hour... I wasn't waiting for a performance this time either. . Singer Deco reminded me a bit of the Bert character from the Dirkjan comics, but what a heavenly voice and what a delightful dude ... Good film.

Wonderful musical film with fun Irish humor! It's a shame that these kinds of films aren't made more often, the cover will come later in the film and the atmosphere will become a bit more "dramatic" but the great soundtrack and the wonderful soul and blues music still keep it light.

It is a film where you know what to expect, but in a nice and well-developed way. The actors also act very naturally and that also gives the film a more realistic feeling.

4*
