Wang anyway.

Hadn't seen a bad movie from him yet, although based on the poster I already had the feeling that this might be the first. And that feeling turned out to be justified. Just like the corny poster, this is a film you can already dream of. Predictable, and in a fairly annoying way.

Also in a fairly moralistic way, by the way, which makes the ending even more annoying. Even if it's not where it goes wrong, the whole movie just doesn't sit well. Latifah's acting is poor, bit parts are bad (Depardieu?) and the feel good is more irritating than touching.

Fortunately, the setting is still quite acceptable and Wang manages to portray that nicely, but that's about it. Bland, predictable nonsense that takes the easiest way out of everything. One to quickly forget, luckily Wang would recover.

1.5*
