Honey, I Shrunk the Kids plot

"The most astonishing, innovative, backyard adventure of all time!"

Wayne Szalinski is an absent-minded scientist who develops a shrinking machine. When someone knocks a baseball through the glass and into the path of the machine's laser, it starts working. Wayne's children and two neighbor children are reduced in size. Wayne accidentally sweeps them up and puts them in the trash, forcing the kids to travel through the yard to get back into the house. Meanwhile, they have to deal with giant insects, water sprinklers and a lawnmower.

Good film in which a scientist invents a machine that can considerably reduce objects. A fun fact that is entertaining and, above all, adventurous. Beautiful sets that do their job well (I'd rather see this than CGI). Although the dynamics between the four children may be somewhat predictable, this is still a successful part of the film. Pure youth sentiment, and that's partly why 3.5 stars.

No childhood sentiment for me, as this is my first time seeing the movie. But I can see that it must have made quite an impression on children for that time. The fact is nice, by reducing the main characters a lot, their world becomes much bigger, and you start to see things completely in a different perspective. The film plays with it a bit, although of course it doesn't go too deep and although the effects look pretty broke these days. But it must be said that a film like Minuscule - La Vallée des Fourmis Perdues shows the world on the same scale and does so in a much nicer and above all more beautiful way. This wasn't annoying, so I ended up with 2*.

Watched it yesterday with the kids. We are in a period where we introduce them to the movies that we liked in our childhood. And frankly, it remains an entertaining and exciting youth film. Perhaps I now look at it with a grown-up view and that it is less impressive than it was about 30 years ago. But I must admit that some of the special effects still look impressive. And those two rascals of mine crept close to me out of tension. Proof that this film has lost none of its charm!

3.5*
