William Wyler delivers one of his classic films in which everything is subordinate to the clear and sound structure of the story.

I would use the word melodramatic, were it not that the film, made in the midst of war, so penetratingly examines the disruption of a community by the violence of war and the immense suffering endured by the civilian population.

It is indeed true that many war films made during that period glorified and prioritized military deployment. This is much less the case here.

That mission to Dunkirk is certainly remarkable. I thought that was only done by the military.

Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon are perfect in their roles as loving and peace-loving people, courageous in their fight against fate.

A good film about a British family at the beginning of the Second World War. A beautiful story that becomes more gripping towards the end. Perhaps a bit on the long side, but it remains entertaining. Certainly also due to the excellent acting. Naturally, it is also extra interesting because this film was made during the Second World War.

11 Oscar nominations, of which it won 6 times, for this Mrs. Miniver. The film is certainly very topical. Production began just a few months after the Dunkirk evacuation. And towards the end, there were a few minor adjustments when the US finally entered the war following the attack on Pearl Harbor. The film keeps its finger on the pulse and manages to capture the atmosphere of the time well. An impressive film that deservedly won the necessary awards.
