Great, I've known the movie for a while, revised, one of those movies you'll never forget. A classic drug film from a different era than Trainspotting, but if you want to compare it is more subdued and realistic. At times more exciting. Not better or worse. That Matt Dillon is also great, an actor who never sold and I'm still a big fan of m.

Extremely realistic look into the lives of a bunch of users. Believably played by the four protagonists. Gus van Sant does not pass judgment on the users, and this is where the strength of the film lies. Top notch!

from Sant.

Somewhere in this film, although it is almost impossible to notice, is the good director who would later turn into Van Sant. Drugstore Cowboy cashes in on the drug concept, which can already be found in the title itself. What was a crazy title that was well chosen, it hardly does justice to the film itself.

The scenes in which Dillon, who at a young age also proves to be able to play a very good role, has swallowed some pills are stylized the most interesting moments of the film. Often, however, such a scene is just an object such as a hat spinning in the air and balancing. If that unfortunately has to be the visual highlights, you know that the film itself is not successful in that area.

That's a shame, because it's hard to deny that films with drugs in the primary focus can always use some visual push. After all, you also visualize the effects and consequences. This movie seems to evade that, which is a shame. Fortunately, the rest of the story is quite captivating and the film is full of good acting.

As mentioned before, Dillon is doing well, but the role of Lynch is also good. I liked that Van Sant manages to give the characters quirkiness with a personality, so you can empathize with it. Not that the film is otherwise very sentimental, but it is a good stage to take your first steps.

The story is intriguing but the nothing that feels like you've never seen it before. Drugstore Cowboy is not a bad film in terms of content, but in other areas it remains well within its range. For a kind of film that I think should push the boundaries, this is a pretty safe film with a lot of sentiment. Not necessarily bad, but also a film that won't stay with you for long.
