Mediocre. What immediately struck me was the animation that is quite detailed and also has a lot of movement. Only later did it turn out that it was made for the cinema - so you can tell by looking at it. And certainly those first scenes in London are very beautifully drawn. It even reminded me of the Grave of the Fireflies style at times. Well, then it was for the best. When Hook comes flying in with his ugly CGI ship, the pace picks up and the story actually gets rushed very quickly and the animation becomes less beautiful. Furthermore, the voice work is mediocre except for Jane's cute accent. The humor is also mediocre and the octopus is funny once, so at the beginning, when the comparison with the crocodile is made, but he cannot dispel the thought of the green funny beast. Too bad, because the film starts strong and is then 50 minutes much less. 1.5*.

Sequel to the Disney classic Peter Pan from 1953. In the 1990s, Disney started making all kinds of cheap (video) sequels to their success films. Return To Never Land is a good example of this. The film had a budget of $20 million, which is not cheap, but significantly lower than the budgets of films like Brother Bear (budget: $128 million) and Treasure Planet (budget: $140 million) which were also released around that time. the cinema appeared. Return To Never Land is therefore not an official sequel. Previously a sequel for the video market, which also happened to have a theatrical release.

The quality is well below Disney's usual standard of cinema films. The animation is very simple, with very few details. The music and songs are also subpar and not very memorable. The opening of the film is good, with London during the Second World War forming a strong contrast with Never Land. However, the rest of the story is quite predictable and as a viewer you get to see little of Never Land this time. Return To Never Land focuses mainly on small children, with the villains being comedic rather than menacing. On many points, this sequel falls into repetition, so that the level does not rise above average. Too bad, because JM Barrie's stories lend themselves perfectly to animation and the original film from 1953 is one of the better films from the Disney stable.

Fun for children, but as an adult you better watch the original again.

Follow up on repeat. Peter Pan: Return to Never Land certainly does not present itself as an original sequel. For example, the film is a fairly large sequence of events that could already be seen in the Disney classic. The biggest difference is that the film now revolves around Jane, the daughter of Wendy, who has now grown up. The crocodile was replaced by a giant octopus, but there is little innovation in terms of characters. Return to Never Land eventually unfolds into a somewhat unnecessary sequel, which fortunately thanks to the short running time is still worth watching, but clearly not for the story.
