Good film about a police officer who is demoted after a complaint is filed against him. The long search in the film may be a bit repetitive, but it never sinks. The position of the police in society is naturally woven into the film. Here and there quite raw (such as the fight scene), but also atmospheric and a nice musical score.

Seen thanks to a compelling tip, see this forum topic. It is a French policier, but one that gets a lot out of its design. The intro starts off well with a sample of the great deeds of our main character, with ample use of freeze frames for extra effect. Dernier domicile connu only really starts after Lino Ventura falls from grace as a detective of serious crime and ends up on a side track. This underdog position offers narrative many more possibilities than that of supercop and that is also exploited. For example in the relationship with the inexperienced Jobert. A bit of sexism is not foreign to the film, but her character is still more than 'the helper of'. I thought her conversation in a café with a book lover who knows something about a missing little girl was a wonderful scene. The bond the two have, because they recognize something in each other, leads to a very sincere conversation, but later turns out to have been just a smart police interrogation. Stylistically, the film is constantly moving. Both the camerawork and the editing are vibrant. A few cool long shots too, including when the two officers storm through a door and end up on a deserted lot (including a zoom-out, which you don't see that often). And, as kappeuter already shouts from the rooftops (and who would dare contradict him?), the music is one of the greatest assets of Dernier domicile connu. A completely original score that simultaneously gives energy but also keeps everything in balance and connects. In terms of chords, it reminded me a lot of Gloria Gaynor's later writtenI will survive. The ending of the film is suitably bitter, here too they avoid an overly conventional approach. All in all a very nice picture that was just right for me and therefore deserves 4*.

Because life is lost if we have not lived it as we would have liked... Ventura and Jobert play modestly powerful roles in this thriller. Political interest and (fellow) humanity play an important role, whereby it turns out that the latter is subordinate to public opinion. Beautifully shot with matching music. Paris in the years '70.
