The revival in the form of Leprechaun in the Hood (2000) turns out, not entirely surprisingly, to be temporary. But I didn't expect the sixth film in the exhausted Leprechaun series to be so bad. It seems as if unforeseen forces were working on a serious horror film, while the writers wanted to go more in the comedic direction. Unfortunately, this film is not funny at all (despite many explicit attempts to be so) and it barely scores higher than a 0 on the horror scale. So...

I don't know what it is about that Leprechaun series. It's not scary, moderate to no gore, the jokes are easy, there's usually not much internal logic to be found, and in this part the Leprechaun doesn't even rhyme anymore. And yet I secretly enjoy it. Yes, the first two parts of the series are a lot better. The whole hood thing is also quite standard, but this is still a big improvement compared to the terribly bad Leprechaun in the Hood. With a few beers, this was a great light viewing experience.

For the sixth part, no further effort is made to move the event to a different setting. We find ourselves in The Hood again, but since the successful ideas have all been explored, it adds little. Warwick Davis remains a nice and charming appearance, but otherwise director Steven Ayromlooi provides everything with a downgrade. Only the murders liven things up left and right, despite their rather poor quality. It is especially painful to see the makers trying so hard to squeeze some humor out of this environment and this single-handedly causes things to sink to an even lower level.
