Now the world is too politically correct to make this kind of movies. This brutal movie in which a hooker is chased by a murderous pimp has a lot of violence against women. Furthermore, this is a sleazy exploitation movie of the purest water: it seems as if the world around Hollywood Boulevard only consists of hookers, pimps and criminals. The cops of the vice squad are not very good and spend the entire movie driving around in a car, looking for Princess. In terms of style, it may have been inspiring for the younger generation of directors (flashy nocturnal movie with underworld characters) but otherwise this is moderately acted -- except for bad guy Wings Hauser who plays a convincing villain who abuses women --, badly edited, with ridiculous dialogues and with toe-curling scenes that apparently have to give the movie some humor but turn out embarrassing (kung fu grandpa, the old freak in the coffin ). I didn't think this was a good film (for example, I thought Ms.45 in the same style was much better), but I wouldn't be surprised if this film has a fan base because it does have cult potential.

Great sleazy movie that doesn't take itself too seriously, but gives a great kick in the ass with what Wings Hauser is doing here. First of all, he's the singer of the rock track that opens the movie. He snarls and growls his way through that song and if you pay attention to the lyrics, you should know what kind of movie he has on his hands. Neon Slime.

Next he plays Ramrod, a pimp and scoundrel of the highest order who seems to take sadistic pleasure in punishing and mutilating his whores. And more. With something called a pimp stick. That's a lesson learned. When he gets tricked, it's all trouble. Like a kind of Terminator, he starts hunting his new prey and, like Princess, he encounters the most colorful characters. I laughed my head off at all that riffraff.

A scene like the one with Wong (that smile when he finally gets caught!) or the whoremonger who has to rely more on lying down is actually completely out of place, but I wouldn't have missed them for the world. Funny elements in a film that is otherwise full of not very graphic, but merciless violence and the typical atmosphere of a big city at night. Love it.

Such a gem that desperately needs to be brought out of obscurity.

Dead & Buried director Sherman sends a great Wings Hauser on the road as a psycho pimp looking for the hooker who betrayed him, making for a gritty chase film in the neon lights of LA.

Pure exploitation of course, with some misplaced humor here and there, but a very well made one. Raw and compelling made and told with great speed.

Scorcese was a fan. I am now too. Vice Squad desperately needs a reappraisal by a wider audience.

You know it's hard out there for a pimp...

Big 4 *s
