Razorback plot

"It's waiting outside and it can sense your fear. No nightmare will prepare you for it!"

Kangaroo hunter Jake Gullen lives in a lost place in the Australian desert, north of Sydney. One night, Jake is attacked by a giant wild boar that destroys his homestead and kidnaps his grandson. No one puts any faith in his story. When American journalist Beth Winter is in turn attacked by the monster during a report on the kangaroo hunt, Jake's story is hard to believe.

Wonderful film because of the use of color, the overwhelmingly beautiful shots of the Australian outback and the atmosphere. Acting of course not great, but I could still quite charm it. The soundtrack is also great. Nice dreamy music with the beautiful pictures. A few more crazy locals in the film and a beautifully designed monstrous pig complete the party. Enjoyed this work very much!

Just a silly monster movie, no, not that. It is one where the director manifests himself very emphatically. Still, I looked up what the man has on his resume. Eighties video clips. MTV and such. And it has that aesthetic. In the rather delirious finale, but also before that, when he examines the steaming outback. Or that chimera. Busy with light and all sorts of things. He pulls out all the stops.

And it fits the cheesy vibe of the film perfectly. POV shots always work well in something like this and with the two slightly crazy brothers (piggy laugh!) it has another clever trick up its sleeve. For example, the overgrown curly tail is not the only threat in the film. Often such a monster automatically becomes a crazy appearance, in full regalia there is usually not much left of it, but Mulcahy knows how to deal with that too. By avoiding it as much as possible.

You don't see too much of him, but enough to really sit down and watch him. When the wild beast makes off with the wall of a hut and leaves the inhabitant bewildered, that's worth its weight in gold. And there's more humor. Both Bakers throw in funny remarks that sound even better because of the juicy Aussie English. And then it also takes full advantage of its setting full of rust and dust. One of the better ones of its kind. Absolutely.

Good film about a journalist who travels to Australia to make a report about the hunt for kangaroos. For what is in fact a monster film, the course is certainly not straightforward. Quite raw and brutal here and there, but also beautifully and atmospherically portrayed (the Australian landscape plays a major role in this).
