Nice debut. In any case, it's infinitely better than what his older brother poops out. Then you see again how important it is to surround yourself with the right people and not make it an ego project. In particular, the grounded, dialogue-driven influence of a writer like Swanberg, who knows how to deal with it with his mumblecore roots, sets a fine foundation for those who like a 70/30 blend of drama (/relational issues) and horror. sees. Dave Franco doesn't know how to add much new within that 'movement', but it has been taken care of down to the last detail and supported by a solid cast. With such a lo-fi horror film on the big screen, it is again waiting for many disappointed reactions because it does not go according to the mainstream book.

A weekend away with friends will not be the same after this superior horror film, you must have a lot of calluses on your film soul if you do not recognize the qualities of this production. Beautiful, quite self-assured directorial debut by little Franco who, as an actor, remains in the shadow of James as an actor, but with this new start suggests that he has more to offer in terms of directing than his very unstable brother. Actually nothing new perhaps (with regard to the concept had to think of films like Ils and The Strangers) but this Franco knows how to give it his own signature. Film that can be disappointing for some because it needs a long run-up and at the end does not provide a direct answer to pressing questions, but thought it was brave that the makers gave room for suggestions and the viewer's own interpretation in that regard. The choice to choose not too well-known actors for the lead roles increases the authentic feeling and is therefore effective, but the individual interpretation of some actors should have been better. Stevens is a somewhat uncomfortable, also boring actor who doesn't really stir things up. My wife Brie has been given a very modest role, actually only the spirited Vand could convince me. But above all a director's film, good that these kind of small films in these meager cinema times may be forced to have a chance, in any case my Saturday night couldn't go wrong.

Surprisingly good thriller, but let me start with something negative first: the dog. Not the dog itself of course, but the role he is assigned in the plot. The dog goes on holiday, at that moment you can count on your fingers that something terrible is about to happen to the dog. It's one of the biggest clichés in thrillers. That made me think about that poor dog all the time.
What also struck me: you are on holiday, you are walking with your dog on a beach that is kilometers long and hundreds of meters wide, but your dog has to come along on such a silly roll-out leash. Just let that dog loose for a while, don't be so cramped and be good. There's not a chicken to be seen on that beach.
Later they tied the dog up in the garden for a while and then they asked if someone could untie the dog later. But the dog is, of course, you don't expect it, completely forgotten and is therefore only tied to a leash outside for half a day, after which he also goes missing.
People who treat their pets like this, you wish the very worst, of course, and luckily that wish also comes true.
But otherwise an excellent debut. Halloweenish, with a masked killer and still a few good scares.
