The Ginger Tree plot

In 1903, the young Scottish Mary Mackenzie leaves for China to marry her fiancé, a soldier from Beijing. But shortly after arriving, Mary has an affair with a young Japanese nobleman, which puts the British community on the brink. Mary is banned from seeing her child again. Mary has spent more than forty years in Asia experiencing all kinds of things.
