Somebody Somewhere plot
Sam is a native of Kansas on the surface, but underneath she struggles to fit into the mold of her hometown. As she struggles with loss and acceptance, singing to Sam saves her and leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders who don't belong, but won't give up. This shows her that finding your people, and finding your voice, is possible.

At its core, the dramady Somebody Somewhere is about friendship. In this case about the friendship of singer Sam (Bridget Everett, also executive producer) with Joel (Jeff Hiller). Even more, Somebody Somewhere is about being free. Free in a society where there is no discrimination, racism or fat shaming. And where everyone respects each other. The series is set in Manhattan, in rural Texas, where Everett himself grew up. Somebody Somewhere is globally based on its own history. In this Manhattan, every street has a church as befits Puritan America.
The choir rehearsals take place clandestinely in the empty shopping centre. These rehearsal evenings form a sanctuary for the LGBTQIA+ community, and give Somebody Somewhere a certain lightness and open-mindedness. Sam, adrift in life after her sister's death, tries to regain her self-confidence here. Major life themes are addressed in Somebody Somewhere, but nowhere does it become gloomy or heavy. A heart-warming mini-series that is based on a utopian premise, but perhaps that is precisely why it continues to fascinate. And that in Texas.
