Heerlijk Vooral als omnibus toch echt een meerwaarde. Geen filmpje zónder nadelen en tegelijk geen échte uitschieters maar als dwarsdoorsnede uitzonderlijk vermakelijk. Ook de korte speelduur per aflevering is fijn, al merk je wel dat het voor sommigen een beetje verkrampt zoeken hoe en hoeveel verhaal er ingepropt moet worden. Opvallend hoeveel stijlen kiezen voor een realistische look, terwijl die haast nergens overtuigend overkomt. Daarentegen, afgezet tegen het Hitler-filmpje en Yoghurt, kun je je afvragen wat beter is. Zelf had ik het meeste met de stijl van Sucker of Souls, Good Hunting, misschien een Shapeshifters of zelfs een Zima Blue. Die laatste vond ik als geheel ook het sterkst. Een van de weinigen waar stijl, verhaal en sfeer perfect afgestemd waren. Meeste afleveringen omarmen de gore-and-violence leidraad op een natuurlijke manier, maar soms wordt het er ook wat opgeplakt. Tegelijk wordt het eigenlijk nergens écht grof of rauw. Misschien vond ik Sonnie’s Edge daar nog het sterkst in, al zorgt daar de statische camerawerking voor veel gemiste kansen, een gevoel dat ik bij meer filmpjes had. Bijna elk filmpje lijkt geïnspireerd op of gejat van iets wat je al eerder hebt gezien maar zelden staat het de filmfun in de weg. Ik hoop wel dat een tweede seizoen de mogelijkheden van animatie en insteek van de serie nóg meer benut, maar dit is zeer fijn vermaak. 4*

Especially as an omnibus a real added value. Not a film without drawbacks and at the same time no real highlights, but exceptionally entertaining as a cross-section. The short playing time per episode is also nice, although you notice that for some it is a bit cramped to find how and how much story should be crammed in.

It is striking how many styles opt for a realistic look, while it is hardly convincing anywhere. On the other hand, compared to the Hitler movie and Yogurt, you may wonder which is better.

Personally I liked the style of Sucker of Souls, Good Hunting, maybe a Shapeshifters or even a Zima Blue. I found the latter to be the strongest as a whole. One of the few where style, story and atmosphere were perfectly matched.

Most episodes embrace the gore-and-violence leitmotif in a natural way, but sometimes it's just a little tacked on. At the same time, it doesn't really get rough or raw anywhere. Perhaps I thought Sonnie's Edge was the strongest in that regard, although the static camera operation causes many missed opportunities, a feeling I had with more films.

Almost every movie seems inspired by or stolen from something you've seen before, but it rarely gets in the way of movie fun. I do hope that a second season uses the possibilities of animation and approach of the series even more, but this is very nice entertainment. 4*

Redelijke vermakelijke serie die mij niet geheel wist te overtuigen. Misschien waren mij verwachtingen toch iets te hoog. De afleveringen verschillen aardig van niveau, van briljant tot matig. Erg sterk vond ik Beyond the Aquila Rift. Fantastische aflevering. Ik houd erg van deze realistische animatiestijl. En Sonnie's Edge, The Witness, Suits, Helping Hand en Fish Night kon ik ook erg waarderen. De rest was voor mij duidelijk van mindere kwaliteit. En konden mij ook niet echt raken. Toch zit er voor mij geen aflevering tussen die ik echt slecht vond. Voor nu kom ik niet verder dan 3*. Maar omdat het concept erg leuk is en dit zeker kan waarderen hoop ik toch wel op een 2e seizoen, die ik zeker een kans ga geven.

Fairly entertaining series that didn't fully convince me. Maybe my expectations were a bit too high.

The episodes vary in level, from brilliant to mediocre. I found Beyond the Aquila Rift very strong. Fantastic episode. I really like this realistic animation style.

And Sonnie's Edge, The Witness, Suits, Helping Hand and Fish Night could I also really appreciate it.

The rest was clearly of lesser quality for me. And they couldn't really touch me either. Still, there isn't an episode that I really disliked.

For now I can't get further than 3*. But because the concept is very nice and can certainly appreciate this, I do hope for a 2nd season, which I will definitely give a chance.

Toffe animatieserie, ontwikkeld door Tim Miller en David Fincher, bestaande uit 18 korte filmpjes van hooguit een kwartier, die slechts thematisch iets met elkaar te maken hebben. De plotlijntjes zijn overwegend niet zo bijzonder en vaak eindigen de filmpjes nogal abrupt, maar hier en daar zit er een meesterlijk filmpje tussen en qua animatie is het overwegend eersteklas. Het gaat er ook behoorlijk bloederig en gewelddadig aan toe allemaal. Duidelijk niet voor kinderen dus.

Cool animation series, developed by Tim Miller and David Fincher, consisting of 18 short films of no more than fifteen minutes, which only thematically have something to do with each other. The plot lines are mostly not that special and often the films end rather abruptly, but here and there there is a masterful film in between and in terms of animation it is mainly first-class. It also gets pretty bloody and violent. Obviously not for children.
