Just when you think it's getting a bit too formulaic, Zorro is kept interesting with some story arcs spread over multiple episodes, each time centered around a new character: a love rival, an eccentric uncle, or a Spanish teenage girl. looking for her father. Annette Funicello, a favorite of Walt Disney, especially excels in the latter role. The move from Los Angeles to more northerly Monterrey in the first half of this season also adds variety.

Guy Williams speaks a little lower and with a less emphatic accent. He transitions smoothly from a gallant scene to an intense, well-choreographed fight. Gene Sheldon once again demonstrates his mastery as a pantomime player. It's not all that believable, but it is stylish and witty escapism.
