Mediocre.

I just watched Thinner because it was a movie based on a King book. This film was also directed by Holland, who is not an unknown director in this genre. Despite the fact that his films have become fairly invisible over the years, this was a film that still remained somewhat known.

This movie doesn't necessarily follow a path that goes through horror, actually I think the movie would have worked better as a drama movie with a bit of thriller. Holland chooses to make this a rather clunky fantasy film with some thriller and drama elements, but both are pushed far into the background, making the film come across as fairly silly.

Horror is still visible, but Holland seemed to want to take a different path. If he wanted to go for the horror path anyway, I think that's a regrettable choice, because it doesn't feel that way. The concept is also just a little too little done in the context of graphics and body horror, this film could have offered a good opportunity for that. Holland mainly plays the cards safe.

What I really appreciated was the light-hearted start of the film and the entertaining course. Thanks to some spectacular scenes in between and a concept that has not been done often before, the film knows how to captivate. It also provides a lot of food for thought at times. The acting is also quite reasonable from Burke. Other roles like Constantine's are a bit out of tune with the rest of the film.

Thinner isn't a minute too long or too short, and I thought the ending was quite doable. It seems a bit out of place because Burke seemed to become a better person throughout the film. That's why I liked that he started the movie as an asshole, but also ended up as an asshole. Sometimes I couldn't believe my eyes that King wrote this, and that it was also being made into a movie. In any case, fairly original, but the execution is too clumsy.

...I'm being erased!

Seen several times and convinced every time as an acceptable and entertaining King film adaptation, if only for Kari Wuhrer and her quarter. This movie dates back to 1996.

The story is well known, an overweight lawyer who gets a curse on himself and then starts to lose weight very quickly. In that sense it is a typical and special story from King's pen, I can't remember much about the book.

A lot can be said about the casting of Robert John Burke, who does not come across as strong, especially in the first phase, but does come into his role a bit better towards the end. In any case, the fat Halleck in his 'fat-suit' seems rather contrived, but this also gives the film something. It's not serious, it's not super good, it doesn't have to look super slick. It fits in with the film that has a nice vibe and pleasant pace. The decline, and that Billy isn't the only one with problems, is nice. Ginelli's dealings are fine and especially the gypsy Lemke is nicely shaped by Michael Constantine, who passed away last year. Not forgetting Kari Wuhrer, better known as Agent Tanya from Red Alert, as a particularly pleasing appearance.

Thinner satisfies as a fine evening of entertainment and certainly belongs to the category of acceptable film adaptations, King saw it himself, hence his appearance in the beginning to bring up the fine denouement.
