Somewhat schizophrenic? Make that pretty schizophrenic. Excellent role by Lithgow in this typical De Palma weather. Wonderful, somewhat over the top mystery atmosphere and a great script that gives a big wink to Hitchcock's Psycho. I thought the scene with the sinking car gave a nice twist to the original scene for example. In this way De Palma shows his love for Alfred Hitchcock again, but still manages to keep it personal and interesting, as always, without turning into cheap stealing work. A striking feature of De Palma films is often that all his class is exhibited in one particular scene. With Raising Cain, the final scene is masterly class. Beautiful camera work and strong mise-en-scene. Nice to see Steven Bauer in a De Palma film again.
3.5*

Sometimes you get the bad feeling that all good movies are running out. And then you find out that you've never seen this fairly low-rated print by De Palma, one of your favorite directors.

So suddenly I didn't know how fast I had to find that damn play button to start this 'Raising Cain'. Great, I finally enjoyed the atmosphere that suits me the most. Filmmaking à la Hitchock, tension, again and again the ''oh fuck yes, that's it'' feeling, Donaggio who never stops, scary scenes and especially the fact that I was finally pulled back into the screen. Super.

Can't remember few movies in which a schizo is so well worked out/directed. Lithgow is fantastic in his triple role and from start to finish it remains very captivating. This is a great party again.

Nice movie to watch. I don't immediately see a masterpiece in it (at least not in the DC which is probably the best version), it's too psychological for me. As so often with psychological films, I didn't find it very exciting nor scary as I read in other people's posts. Nevertheless, the film has some great scenes such as the kiss scene in the car to prevent him from being caught, which precedes Jack to be able to accuse Jack of murder (which is done very little imo), which follows when he woman on television (alive and well) and the absolute end with the climax with Jack who manages to save the child and Carter who still gets away. The ending also has a wonderful twist as we are used to from De Palma .

Perhaps I also know too little about the references that Bas sees in the film. I am hardly familiar with Hitchcock and also with Argento (only seen 1 film of both). In my opinion that will not change the experience much. Raising Cain resembles the recent movie Split but surpasses it on all fronts as far as I'm concerned. Very curious about De Palma's other lesser known work that I have yet to check out.
