My Life without Me plot

The 23-year-old Ann lives with her two daughters and an unemployed husband in a caravan. Her mother hates the world and her father has been in prison for the past ten years. One day, her doctor tells her she has only two months to live. Ann decides to keep this from her surroundings, but does make an extraordinary list of things she still wants to do, which range from 'always tell the truth' to 'wear fake nails'. Her life takes a radical turn and Ann discovers in the last months of her life that she has more courage than she thought.

Reasonable film about a young mother who decides not to share the news of her coming death with her loved ones. The film does not take the easy road and is a bit on the slow and sometimes boring side. Certainly some beautiful moments and the ending manages to move. Sarah Polley carries the film with ease.

A beautiful, atmospheric and moving film. The story gripped me, I like the way it was developed and I think the acting is very good. Also, I don't think it's predictable. That's nice. Things I thought might happen didn't happen. I like the children very much, and they also play so naturally. This is a movie that makes you think and that can affect your life in a positive way, despite the sad subject. 5*

A poignant portrait of a young mother who is not very well off financially. She lives in a caravan on a piece of her mother's garden. Despite everything, she seems to be happy with her family, even though the prospects are often short-term. That short term is tightened even more when she is told that she is terminally ill.

It makes her think and start life more carefree, for the time she has left. It is strange that she does not involve her partner with whom she has a good relationship in the story. Perhaps to avoid this putting a damper on her remaining months.

Her bucket list is endearing. No mega-adventures, but ordinary little everyday things that never came about or that otherwise would never have been implemented. The audio tapes with birthday wishes each time one of her daughters had a birthday were poignant . Her relationship with her doctor was also good. With those candies...life really is in those little things, if you only seek, find and appreciate. Nice!
