Ma petite ruine!
If you're reading this, you've come too far. Get off this page, and just watch the movie without any info beforehand. Yes, even without reading the non-spoilers, without watching the trailer, or anything else. This fine example of French cinema outclasses any Hitchcock film or Agatha Christie book and you will almost get dizzy from being misled time and again. 4*

By the way, wouldn't it be better if the last sentence in the above MM plot description is removed? For me the story 'starts' with the murder and the intention of the women to keep it hidden. The fact that the body disappears from the pool is the first big twist that the viewer better not know?

Excellent thriller from the old box in which a (loose-handed) bully is eliminated by his wife and his mistress. The build-up of the film initially focuses on this three-way relationship and immediately chooses a side of good versus evil. Christina is portrayed as a gentle innocent woman and her sympathy is immediately won by the viewer. When she is persuaded by the mistress Nicole to get rid of her husband, a rollercoaster ensues from which no one escapes.

So the introduction of the characters is strong and intriguing, but the film really gets going during the murder itself and comes to a climax when it turns out that the dumped corpse has disappeared. Cinematographically very strong scenes before, during and after the murder. Camera angles, facial expressions and despair of the character(s) are arranged in such a way that the tension is optimally created. In that respect, the film feels Hitchcockian. The tension is simply cut when the pool is drained. You empathize with the character Christina and especially when the tension is turned into amazement...

Nice ending too, surprising and strong plot twist that makes this film high on my list. More than rightly ended up in the top 250. Super!
