Most horror movies are nonsensical and uninteresting because they have no relation to the real world, but every once in a while a serious horror movie comes along that is about something real. This horror movie is serious because it's about how a traumatic experience can haunt you even when the source is gone (which is a real problem in the real world). In addition, the film on the other hand has the interesting aspect of a magician or illusionist who manipulates the mind, such as Victor Mids in the Netherlands whose program is not called Mindfuck for nothing, who leaves an alternative explanation open. I did find most of the film disappointing because little interesting was done with this premise: in a predictable or at least not very original way we see how the victim is bullied and attacked by her invisible assailant. But from the moment she gets arrested the movie gets a lot better as layers and twists are added to the story making the movie more and more of a mindfuck for the viewer rather than the victim. For example, the film starts as a meager six, but ends as a fat eight. Because the film is so satisfying in the end, I give it eight.

What a GREAT movie this is. Finally a really exciting story. The film is totally supported by Elisabeth Moss. She plays horribly well here. The fear on her face, if she's not familiar with it, is soooo much played. It gave me goosebumps. The film is 2 hours long, but it flew by. I really wanted to see this in the cinema!!!!!!

Let's be clear. The film is full of errors and bizarre plot twists. Time and time again, facts or events are not discussed further or there is no logical explanation to assume why Cecilia is not believed. Her big metamorphosis from scared bunny to a determined lady also raises some doubts. And various time frames between hunter and prey are also not quite right, but that is more the case with thrillers and horror films.

What does argue for the film, however, is the strong psychological thriller content that the film contains. The tension was often cut and especially the first part of the film - before the physical confrontation with Cecelia was done - was very strong. The mood setting was also very good with many suggestive images of where Adrian might or might not be.

So mixed feelings about the film where the absolute ending didn't help, but I mainly remember the plus points and the purpose with which the film was made: atmosphere and setting. Moss's good acting is also striking. Her fears and mindf*ck were well expressed. I didn't like the rest of the cast. It's also a shame that Adrian's narcissism and dominance during the marriage did not come to the fore. Little was known of his work.
