Hey too bad.

It gets a bit repetitive, but this film also suffers from not really knowing what genre it wants to be. It's primarily a sci-fi horror. But as the film progresses, it doesn't want to go full that way. And we get drama from our protagonist and antagonist. It works mediocre and a real threat or a fascinating game of cat and mouse between the alien and the rest is not included either. The director probably didn't want to go that way because it's already been done 100 times, but he doesn't choose a fascinating other side, which I actually would have preferred if he had just made an effective horror / sci-fit of it.

Everything looked great and the alien looked really good, but unfortunately it doesn't save the movie.

2.5 stars.

I totally disagree with the lukewarm opinions. This movie is better than any other Alien rip-off I've seen. If I have to choose between Alien or this Sputnik I choose Sputnik too. Well made, great role by Oksana Akinshina who reminds me of all healthcare workers in the hospitals. The special effects are good with a well-made alien and a great soundtrack. Personally, I like a mix of genres. Why wouldn't that be possible? This movie just proves it can be done.

Reasonable SF drama that presents interesting dilemmas. You shouldn't see this as horror even though it would have been tempting to sell it like that. It never wants to get really exciting or scary, but intriguing enough to watch. It has a twist that makes it not your standard monster movie and a bit less predictable. I particularly liked the leading lady, the actor who plays astronaut Konstantin was a bit less. The alien is well done and it's also nice that it takes place in the rather unrelenting Soviet era.

What I didn't quite get: at the end his son says something that apparently points to some kind of telepathic ability that Konstantin probably also had? And what made the alien choose him as a symbiote? Kind of vague.
