Rosso Sangue plot
"Pray you survive the hunt."
A priest arrives in a small town to help destroy a monster. But problems arise when it turns out that the monster is very difficult to kill. The problems continue to pile up when the hideous monster decides to stage a killing spree. Nothing and no one is safe anymore.

A Greek man has escaped from an experimental hospital, making victims along the way. The man cannot be killed because his cells are self-generating. A local police officer and a Greek priest try to stop him.
Rosso Sangue aka Absurd aka Anthropophagus 2 is a typical Italian Splatter film by Joe D'Amato. The film tries very hard to appear American, so there is continuous talk about 'the game' that is on TV and as a result of which the entire police force is disrupted. However, it is very clear that the old country houses with even complete medieval furnishings are in Europe and not in the states.
What makes Rosso Sangue fun are the extensive bits of gore, which only Italians see creative and improbable possibilities for. The need for gore is never made clear in the film, but it is entertaining and, given the budget, it doesn't look bad. The story around it is quite boring and the film makes many failed attempts to make us care about the characters. Many attempts at suspense are stretched way too long, causing the tempo to go completely off.
All in all, another nice and bad Italian splatter movie. Not really very special.

Cozy up with the whole family in front of the TV for this exciting thriller by Joe D'Amato. The man who also delighted us with some Black Emanuelle films, Erotic Nights of the Living Dead and Porno Holocaust and about 190 others titles. But it was this and its predecessor Anthropophagus that scored him in the prosecuted 39 video nasties in the UK. 1 very successful gore scene and an overall sick atmosphere made it a good candidate for the list. It's a splatter movie, it's actually about the kills, but as a whole the whole movie is fine. At most the bits with the police and the priest are a bit more boring. But definitely a topper in the splatter genre. Maybe I don't think it's such a good idea anymore to rent these kind of movies to 14 year olds, on the other hand it didn't make me much worse either, so I think it's not that bad with the bad influence of these kinds of movies .
The local video stores didn't have these on the rack, I think we're pretty much through that nasties list now. I don't care much for that Nazi porn. Island of Death maybe someday.
